FAQ.

What is a Smart Hydrant?
A Smart Hydrant is a fire hydrant that does more than flow water. It knows its environment: Who it is. Where it is. And, what's going on around it; And it communicates this information to the utility.

What's going on around it? What does that mean? Plain English Please! Imagine a hydrant that can monitor for distribution system leaks within a 500 ft. radius. A hydrant that can monitor for un-authorized usage and notify you instantly. A hydrant that can advise you when it needs attention. A hydrant that can connect to your fixed network AMR, AMI or Advanced Infrastructure Management System. A hydrant with 2 way communications.

Now that's a
Smart Hydrant.

How much, and who makes them?

The Smart Hydrant Module™, which is easily installed on any existing hydrant, will be released in two versions.

Version 1 - Will combine distribution system Leak detection, on-line data analysis capabilities, a 10-15 year battery life and data collection via a drive/walk-by controller. The core capability of identifying leakage, up to a 500 ft. radius from the hydrant, is an integral feature of each SmartHydrant version.

We are accepting orders for a SmartHydrant starker kit for $9,995.00 which includes 30
SmartHydrant-1 logger caps, a data collection controller and on-line data analysis. Delivery begins 3rd quarter, 2008.
